Baby layette. What should be included in the layette?
Whether you already have children or your family is about to expand, every expectant mother faces the task of preparing a layette. Even experienced mothers, when gathering supplies for their child, seek information on what's necessary. And if you're looking for such information, you've come to the right place!
Every mother wants to prepare for the birth of her child without any surprises. What are the essentials that will make those first moments together easier? As mothers who have faced these questions themselves, we've gathered our shared experiences to make preparing a layette easier for other mothers!
What's most important? Little children grow quickly, so when choosing clothes, consider the season and choose a few rompers, bodysuits, or bodysuits in a given size. Contrary to appearances, we'll need a lot of things for our little one, so to make it easier, we've prepared a list of must-have products! Before we get to the list, let's discuss the most important elements.
The most important thing about baby clothes is that they be made of cotton. A baby's delicate skin and head need soft fabrics and cotton hats from the very first moments.
Before you head to the maternity ward, you need to think about returning from the hospital. A stroller will be useful for both small and large first trips, but remember that you won't leave the hospital with your little one without a car seat. In addition to baby clothes, you'll need a car seat, and a car seat swaddle. Your little darling shouldn't travel in a snowsuit and jacket, and a swaddle will ensure a safe and comfortable journey for your little one. Pay attention to the swaddle's construction; those with cotton velour work much better than polyester ones. A swaddle will also make going out with your baby much more enjoyable, as you won't have to worry about overheating. Simply place your little one in the car seat, fasten the harness, then wrap them up, and you're ready to go! A swaddle also works well in a bassinet, so it should be a must-have in your layette. If your due date falls in the summer, it's worth getting a car seat insert, which will help your little one sweat less.
What should you remember at home? A baby obviously needs a crib, a cotton sheet, and a baby wrap, but definitely avoid crib bumpers, which may look beautiful but are dangerous, especially for a newborn! A crib should have fewer items, not more. Opt for the aforementioned wrap, blanket, or sleeping bags.
Once the initial excitement subsides and it's time for the first bath, a bathtub, soft diapers, and towels will be essential for your little one. Newborns have sensitive skin, so choose muslin towels that are gentle on the baby's skin. Speaking of bathing, you'll also need appropriate toiletries and diapers in the right size.
We can of course buy many gadgets for our little one, but the products mentioned above are a real must-have!
As your baby grows, it will certainly be easier to assess your needs for accessories that make motherhood carefree!
